Pink Donut Business Cards

Hey everyone, I know it’s been forever since we’ve blogged last and yes we are still alive!  🙂  There has been a lot of printing and designing keeping us busy so we’ll have a few posts coming up in the next couple of weeks showcasing the great work we’ve had the privilege of doing over the last couple of months.  Today, a project that was a real treat to print (mmm donuts) are these awesome business cards for Toronto based company Pink Donut Visuals.  Pink Donut Business Card

Some logos are just perfection when letterpress printed and this one certainly is!  We used Pantones 2375 & 2756 on Crane’s Lettra 220lb cotton stock and then to make the cards even better, edge-painted them in matching blue. Pink Donut Card1 Pink Donut Card2

Check out Pink Donut’s Facebook page for all kinds of info on their video production services http://www.facebook.com/pinkdonutvisuals and their Vimeo page for examples of their work http://vimeo.com/pinkdonutvisuals (they do weddings!!)

WDP also has a new website in the works (forgive the lack of pages to browse) but if you want information on our letterpress services there is a contact form on our homepage http://www.wedoprinting.net

Vintage Style Business Cards

Unique businesses deserve unique business cards and we’ve got 2 examples to show you today.  Both of these cards were letterpress printed for local customers (staying 100 mile-yay!) on creamy Lettra pearl white cotton paper for a classic antique look.

The Old 4th is a new organic brewery in the area; organic beer-can it get any better??  You have to see the awesome pics of their hops harvest on their Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/Old4thBrewingCompany  Their logo was also designed by local designer Erica Taylor, check out her artwork here: http://www.ericataylorart.com

For Dr. Wheatcroft’s Organ Consulting card we also opted for a vertical layout with Copperplate font and a medieval looking organ to offer a hint as to his line of work.  The details in the graphic came out beautifully on the letterpress.  There is a ton of information about his restoration projects on the website here: http://www.organconsulting.ca

A one-of-a-kind business having a ho-hum business card will not get noticed, don’t let that happen to you! Give us a shout for a quote and get your business noticed!

And if you only need 100 1 colour cards, it’s $95.00!

A Few Edge-Painted Business Cards

Hey everyone, it’s been awhile since we’ve updated our blog, but it’s only because we’ve been so busy!   Today I have a few pics of 3 different business cards we printed for clients in the last month, all 3 are printed on Crane’s Lettra 220lb cotton paper and feature our fave customization-edge-painting.

This first card designed by Brytani Bedard at 10Count  is printed double-sided with basic black ink and edge-painted in the same black for a classic look.

This second card designed by Victor Paszkiewicz at Mebius is printed single-sided in Pantone Cool Grey 11 and edge-painted in the same matching grey.

The third card designed by Des Hildebrand at Paper Airplanes for Kendra Redekop Design was printed in 2 ink colours-Pantones 7712 & Cool Grey 11 and edge-painted to match Pantone 7712.

A business card needs to get the attention and keep the attention of the person it is handed to, and these cards sure do that!   Upgrade your business card to letterpress, just send us a message for a quote!

Stitched-Up Letterpress

I haven’t had much time to post on the blog lately with the springtime rush for wedding invitations!   So, today I have a card we letterpress printed a few months back for Matias Sandoval,  a brilliant denim designer who needed a creative business card with room for stitching, yup-needle and thread!  The card was designed (and sewn) by Matias and letterpress printed on Crane’s Lettra cotton paper in perfect Pantone 532 ink with enough impression on the logo to make an old-school printer have a heart attack.  Matias wanted the logo to show through to the back of the card, and with our Heidelberg Windmill we easily made it happen!

Photos with the funky stitching were taken by Matias and given to us to use!

White Photographie Business Card

Today on the blog is this beautiful business card designed by Aileen Fretz for her photography business White Photographie .  The card was printed double-sided on duplex 100% cotton paper in a lovely shade of grey.  The pattern on the front of the card highlights the 3D effect of letterpress and the retro camera logo is a perfect match for the old-school printing!

Pictures were taken by Aileen for us to use!  Please check out Aileen’s website http://www.liveworkmedia.com if you need the help of a fabulous designer.  And if you already have a fabulous design send it on over for a quote!

Charisa Letterpress Business Card

So most people believe that letterpress printing is best for a limited number of ink colours.  One, two or three max.  Well, we don’t believe in limitations at We Do Printing and this card proves it!  This eye-catching business card for Charisa Marketing is another great design from Aileen Fretz at Livework Media http://www.liveworkmedia.com.

A five colour logo and another colour for the text set the record for most ink mixing in one day at WDP’s shop!  The printing was quite a feat of patience due to the exact registration that the logo required, if even one of the plates was not in correct position the whole logo would have been a mess!  The card was printed on extra thick 220lb cotton paper to reduce the impression that would show through to the other side.

Do you have a design that you think can’t be letterpress printed?  Send it over!  Let us take a look, you might be pleasantly surprised!

Weddings Unveiled Duplexed Letterpress Card

We just loved printing this business card for Ottawa wedding planner Lynn Lee.  She really wanted her new business card to be an original and stand out & it sure does!   The card was printed in 3 ink colours and we printed the front of the card and the back of the card on separate sheets and then duplexed them together ourselves.  Duplexing the cards after printing enabled us to print a really deep impression and not worry about any show through.  The paper we used was Crane’s Lettra 100% cotton paper and we mixed 2 gorgeous ink colours for the text & then used transparent white ink on the blind patterns just to bring out a little more detail.

The card was designed by Beverly Hyatt at Cinnamon Toast New Media, check out their website here: http://cinnamontoastnewmedia.com

If you need a fabulous wedding planner in the Ottawa area, give Lynn a call!  Her website is http://weddingsunveiled.ca

You may think your design won’t work with letterpress printing or with your budget, but there are always options! Send us an email with the details and we can send you ideas for getting your vision onto cotton paper!

Longgrass Business Card

Today on the blog is this fabulously designed business card for Longgrass Marketing which was sent to us by Aileen Fretz at Livework Media.  It is letterpress printed in 2 ink colours, double-sided and on duplex cotton stock. For printing double-sided cards we always recommend a thicker stock to avoid impression showing through to the other side.  And it really does get your card noticed too!

If you are looking for a brilliant graphic designer in the Burlington Ontario region, give Aileen a shout!  Her new website is http://www.liveworkmedia.com and her email address is aileen@liveworkmedia.com

At WDP we love it when designers send us their beautiful work for us to print. Our turnaround time for standard business cards is about 2-3 weeks and we don’t mind answering your dozens of questions about letterpress, inks, paper or how to set up your files-we just love talking about letterpress!

Eye Heart Films Letterpress DVD Covers

When Isabella and Jacky from Eye Heart Films contacted us about printing their DVD covers we thought “Cool!”  Since our usual orders are business cards, wedding invitations and the odd greeting card, we knew this would be an interesting project.  The covers were designed by Jacky & Isabella and we letterpress printed them on Crane’s Lettra 100% cotton paper.  We used red and blue ink to match their logo and printed a blind deboss (no ink) for a real distinct look.  The next step was to send them off to our die-cutters to be cut, folded and glued into the completed covers.

Jacob Ryan Business Card

For letterpress printers the easiest business card to print is one ink colour on 100% cotton paper…or so we always thought.   Let me explain.  To print a letterpress design we make a photopolymer plate for each ink colour and mount it on the press to be inked up.  It’s simple and efficient.  Except if you run into finicky dots-Yup tiny little innocent looking dots.  When I made the plate for Jacob’s cards the little lines of dots morphed and started moving on the plate.  I had never had this happen before so I thought it might be the plate-sometimes they get old and don’t expose as well. So I made another plate, and another and another and it still wasn’t working!  What I eventually realized, after wasting quite a bit of plate material, was the large solid logo needed to be exposed for a different amount of time than the  small dots.  So, I made another plate of the full card and using an exacto knife and a steady hand, I cut out the lines of dots and printed the cards in 2 runs, one for the logo and one for the dots. It was probably the most work for such a simple job I have ever done.  And in the end the result was excellent and the client loved them-which is all that matters!  With letterpress, it really is a new experience with each design, each plate, each print, and that’s why we love it!
